Well, today was pretty extraordinary for me…it’s not often that I get the opportunity to attend and photograph private band rehearsals…especially when that band is Canada’s own Our Lady Peace!
The last time I photographed OLP was during Canadian Music Week in March 2009 – if you haven’t seen them yet, you can check out those images here: http://www.lisamarkphotography.com/?p=455
Today was quite different, however. Shooting for Access Magazine here in Toronto, I was welcomed warmly into Our Lady Peace’s rehearsal space, which is pretty awesome…my favourite part by far being the stunning chandelier which hangs (if somewhat precariously) from the ceiling, and OLP backdrops from past tours and similar items which decorate the walls and ceiling of the space.
The guys (who were very kind and funny), did a couple interviews with Sun TV and Rogers Digital, and then rehearsed two songs from their forthcoming album ‘Burn Burn’ (release date – July 21, 2009), which were filmed by the two TV crews, and photographed by me (I won’t lie – it was pretty cool being only one of six people in the room at the time – not including the band of course). The two songs performed were ‘Monkey Brains’ and new single ‘All You Did Was Save My Life’, and they sounded fantastic! The band plays the Belleville Waterfront Festival tomorrow, and the fans are in for a real treat.
A BIG thanks goes out to Duncan, Jeremy, Raine & Steve for welcoming me into their rehearsal today – I hope we get the chance to work together again sometime. Also, big thanks to Erica from Sony Music for organizing today’s session.
