Sarah & Mateusz had the most gorgeous Loft Toronto wedding day! The gentlemen got ready at Mateusz’s family home, along with a happy grandfather who was beyond thrilled for his grandson on his Toronto wedding day.
The traditional Catholic wedding ceremony was held in Brampton at St. Eugene de Mazenod Parish which featured gorgeous stained glass windows and the most beautiful light a wedding photographer could ask for!
Once Sarah & Mateusz were officially pronounced married by the Priest at the conclusion of their St. Eugene de Mazenod Parish wedding ceremony, they celebrated outside the Catholic church amongst their friends & family.
A little bit about Sarah & Mateusz and this day which featured The Loft Toronto wedding:
How long have you been a couple?
We have been together for over three years. When we get married, we will have been together for four years. Part of the reason we love our wedding date is that it takes place the first weekend of October and coincidentally, our first date took place the first weekend of October!
How did you meet?
We first met when we both started working at the hospital in July 2013. I had just graduated nursing school and started my first job as nurse. Mateusz had graduated medical school and had just started working his intern year of his residency. I remember the first time I met Mateusz, I came home and told my mom that I met a really handsome and nice guy. For the next few months, I would see him in the hallways or in the cafeteria but did not have enough courage to look at him, let alone start a conversation. He later told me, he remembered those times, but did not think I was interested in him. We eventually started to talk and went on our first date to the Seafood Festival in Morehead, NC on October 5th. The festival was a 2 hour drive from where we both lived, so I am glad we got along from the very beginning! Otherwise, that would have been a long drive both ways! Every year, we go back to the festival as a way to celebrate our first date 🙂
What do you love most about your relationship?
When I was younger, there was a romantic comedy movie that I always loved watching called “Lucky 7.” And for some reason, there was quote that I always stuck with me as I grew up. “I need to be with someone who pushes me to be a better person. Someone that I can grow with. Someone who is my partner.” I always kept that in the back of my mind and always wanted that in a relationship. I finally found this with Mateusz and this is what we both love most about our relationship. We both encourage each other to be better people and to be thankful to God for everything we have. On a more light-hearted note, we have so much fun together. I have never laughed so hard than when I am with Mateusz. And he says the same for him with me. We are ourselves with each other and that makes it all the more better.
How’d the proposal take place?
He proposed in the mountains of Virginia. We took a weekend trip with my mom to show her a town that we (at the time) were seriously considering moving to once he finished residency. (We are actually moving there in July which makes the proposal even better for me!). After we showed her the town, we had reservations at a nice restaurant. Before dinner, we went for a walk on the boardwalk overlooking the river. My mom pretended to take a picture of us, but was secretively recording. When I thought she had finished taking the picture, Mateusz took the ring out and got on one knee! I was completely surprised! Afterwards, we walked to the restaurant to celebrate. We were led to a private room where my dad, step mom, grandma and his parents and siblings all surprised us. He had flown my family from Kansas and his from Canada to celebrate with us. I had always said I wanted our family to be a part of our engagement. And he listened 🙂
Why did you choose your wedding venue(s)?
We chose St. Eugene de Mazenod in Brampton because it is his family’s church. It is a Polish church and it was very important to have Polish culture be a part of our wedding. We chose the Distillery District for our reception because we love downtown Toronto and the venue was exactly how we envisioned our reception. We both love exposed brick, wooden beams, industrial lighting. When we both saw it for the first time, we knew it was the one.
What is the vision you have for your wedding day?
Our vision for our wedding has always been around our families. We are having an intimate wedding (~ 50 people) with our closest family and friends. We want it to be warm, full of laughter, and ultimately celebrating our marriage with the people we love the most.
The lovely bride Sarah & her bridesmaids carried handcrafted bridal bouquets by talented Toronto wedding florist Coriander Girl, while Mateusz & his groomsmen sported equally stunning boutonnieres also by Coriander Girl florist.
The Distillery District was the Toronto photo location for The Loft Toronto wedding. The exposed brick and cheerful atmosphere was busy but a lot of fun! We had gorgeous late day golden hour light, and the late day sunlight was so romantic.
The Loft Toronto wedding for Sarah & Mateusz was the perfect intimate & unique Toronto wedding venue. Upstairs and removed from the busy Distillery District below, The Loft Toronto wedding for this Bride and Groom was unique and so beautifully decorated with all decor by Coriander Girl.
Congratulations Sarah & Mateusz and thank you for asking me to photograph your wedding at The Loft in The Distillery District!
