April & Mickael are one of the most fun couples we had the pleasure of working with last year! Mickael is quite a character and he had us laughing all day long! No wonder April fell so much in love with him – he had her smiling ear to ear.
We began the day at April’s family home, where the couple took part in a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony. Filled with beautiful colours and historical traditions, it honoured her ancestors and those that had passed on with pictures displayed on an altar. The bride and groom exchanged rings and kisses to make it official.
After the Vietnamese wedding ceremony had concluded, we proceeded to the Fairmont Royal York Hotel for a quick wardrobe change and a “first look” for the bride & groom – I LOVE Mickael’s expression when he first sees his stunning bride! April wore a gorgeous dress and carried her mother’s vintage hand bag, while Mickael looked very dapper in his brand new custom tailored suit.
We shot some bride & groom portraits in the gorgeous & dramatic Fairmont Royal York Hotel lobby by the large clock, and continued our shoot along Front Street & Wellington Street East. I love the unique look of The Flat Iron building on Wellington Street East as a backdrop for a wedding portrait.
From our first meeting with this lovely couple, we learned that they were planning a relaxed and hip affair at The Market Kitchen, which is located upstairs inside the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto. As Mickael is from France and a very talented chef by trade, food was very important to them both. So what could be a more perfect location than The Market Kitchen to hold their cocktail-style wedding reception? Their guests enjoyed amazing food stations all night long – cheeses, caesar salad, beef, asian noodles & crepes with ice cream for dessert. It was amazing!
The evening was a very relaxed, modern affair with few traditional elements – April & Mickael really just wanted to throw a big party for their favourite people. A few short speeches were made about the very loved bride and groom, and the whole night was filled with a LOT of laughter, dancing and even a few tears.
Congratulations April & Mickael! You were truly a pleasure – we had so much fun at your wedding, and ate entirely too much amazing food! We wish you all the best in your marriage.
