Toronto Photography Locations

Green Spaces

Edwards Gardens

Honestly I’m not a huge fan of Edwards Gardens.  I included it in this list because it’s such a popular spot for wedding & engagement photography but I honestly feel it’s overrated.  It costs a lot for a permit, and is incredibly busy with visitors (especially on Saturdays in the summer).  I have never seen many flowers in this “garden” – mostly just trees and a bridge or two, with some forest area.  It’s very challenging shooting around all the tourists, and the main spot (on the steps pictured in the gallery below) is often already occupied with another wedding party when you get there.

Gairloch Gardens

Gairlcoh Gardens is probably my favourite garden location to date!  It’s in Oakville and it’s located right on the water.  There are beautifully landscaped gardens, a small bridge, very cool rocks and lots of neat little spots to shoot.  It’s not the cheapest but it’s great.  Also in high demand, so I recommend getting your permit early.

High Park

High Park is huge, and it has lots of different spaces.  I usually walk down towards the water and shoot along the way, then walk back up the hill.  It’s best if you want big, open, green spaces.  Occasionally you’ll see some flowers or something special (i.e. the Sakura or Cherry Blossom trees which bloom for only 1-2 weeks in the spring each year).  Please note that a cherry blossom shoot takes extra special planning so please request this type of shoot months ahead of time whenever possible.  High Park is one of the busiest Toronto photography locations in the Spring, however, so for the fewest amount of people plan your shoot at a different time than when the sakura trees are blooming in May.

Address:  1873 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3
Permit Required:  The city of Toronto does not issue permits for High Park

Royal Botanical Gardens

RBG in Burlington is probably one of the best actual gardens you can get.  When in season, you can see many different varieties of trees, plants & flowers.  There are some great structures and a large bridge, and there’s even an indoor garden space (the Mediterranean Garden) which is great if you have rain or if you go in the winter.

Address:  680 Plains Rd W, Burlington, ON L7T 1J1
