Well, I’m speechless. Seriously.
Justin & I recently had the rare pleasure of a night out on the town at the 2014 Canadian Wedding Industry Awards, which was held in downtown Toronto at the gorgeous Ritz Carlton Hotel. The whole place looked amazing, and there were hundreds of our fellow wedding industry professionals, all decked out and looking great! I read on social media that many folks even flew in for the awards from all over Canada.
For those who are not familiar with it, the Canadian Wedding Industry Awards are dedicated to recognizing and awarding the best of Canada’s influential and innovative wedding and events industry. We got to meet tons of awesome new people, and got to catch up with lots of old friends too.
I had entered 4 photography categories, but honestly wasn’t expecting to win anything because Toronto is jam packed with talented and creative wedding photographers. So you can imagine my surprise when I won the category of ‘Best Photographer in Ontario’! Surprise actually barely covers it.
Once all the regional award winners were announced, they began announcing the national winners. Basically this means that the ‘Best’ winner from every category in each province is put up against the other ‘Best’ category winners from the rest of Canada, and whoever’s work was scored the highest by the judges was announced as the national winner of their category.
I was absolutely FLOORED when they announced that I had won the national award for Canadian Photographer of the Year!!!! I had to go up and make a speech, which I hope was coherent during! I really just thanked my husband (and partner / second shooter) Justin for all his love, support and for being an amazing Dad to our 2 kids. Without him I may not have my dream job, and I just couldn’t thank him enough.
So I’d also love to say a huge thank you to the hardworking team who put on the awards (Wedluxe Magazine as well as many others), and I’d also like to thank the judges of this prestigious competition for their support. Here are the names of the esteemed panel of judges:
- Randy Fenoli, Fashion Expert, Designer & Television Personality
- Rebecca Grinnals, Engaging Concepts
- Marcy Blum, Marcy Blum & Associates
- Francis Guindon, Maison Birks
- Ellen Black, Lehr & Black
- Laura Gutkin, Etsy Canada
I wanted to share with you the body of work that was submitted to this category. Shared in this post are 15 of my favourite images from our 2014 season (although it was so hard to choose what to submit to the competition!) THANK YOU to all our happy couples! We would not be here without you!
